Napster
Ripoff secretly charges for internet services

Internet & Web

I signed on to Napster in September and downloaded their software just to buy one song and ended up buying two. I had to give my credit card # to do so — not a problem. Somehow they also charged me $14.95 for a monthly subscription but never confirmed with an email like reputable companies do.

The only way I knew was by reviewing my next monthly credit card report. I promptly called in October, demanded a refund and removal from the subscription service — the rep agreed but did nothing and did not even record the call.

The October charge showed up on my Nov card report, so I sent an email and called on 11/10, and they agreed to refund and change me to the free Napster Light. The refund showed up on 11/13, but they charged me another $14.95 on 11/14. I never used the monthly service.
These folks are crooks (not just complicit with piracy as in their former life) or totally incompetent.
