Ripoff, fraud, unauthorized

I noticed a charge on my bank statement for $9.00 and didnt recongize it so I called the 800 number on the transaction. I inquired as to what service this was and why I was being charged this amount and the operator who answered the phone informed me that when I signed up for Columbia House last year that I also opted to sign up for their service as well.

I NEVER signed up for this service and would have remembered doing it. I spend alot of time online and always uncheck any boxes on forms that I dont wish to have. She insisted that I gave them all my information including my credit card and email address. I fought back and forth with her telling her I never got any kind of email notification that I had joined such a service.

After going back and forth and fighting, I got her to refund ALL the money they had taken from me which shockingly totalled $180.00. The money had come out so slowly and in such small amounts that I didnt even see it happening. I did some online searches and found many other cases just like mine not only stemming from columbia house but from other online merchants which leads me to believe that some kind of spyware stole my information. I went to their website at shopperdiscount.com and I cant even figure out what kind of service they even provide.
