TigerDirect - OnRebate
Ripoff for rebate Seems to be business as usual for TigerDirect

In Early May I ordered a 160GB hard drive From TigerDirect, the advertised price was $39.99 with free ETrust Internet Security Suite. I also ordered a DVD burner, computer speakers and a modem. Upon checkout the price for the hard drive was $79.61 and the free software was $65.38 but there was $105.00 in rebates. Boy waht a deal.

Products arrived and I immediately went thru the laborious tasks of mailing in 3 rebate forms. To my dismay 1 of the rebates was denied. I called Onrebate and was informed that I did not meet the requirements for this rebate.in tiny tiny print on the rebatem for 1 of the requirements was I had to buy a new PC. No mention of this was on the original add for the HD. I had recently purchased a new IBM PC and I asked if I could sent in a copy of the purchas of this PC they said I could, which I did. A few weeks later I was again told no rebate.

This is the classical "bait and switch" advertising by TigerDirect. Why would I buy a HD if I also had to buy a new computer. I tried to return the unwanted software but since I had opened it TigerDirect said no-way. (Software is crap) This type of advertising is illegal in some states including possibly CT where I reside. Merchants must clearly state price before and after rebate in the ad. Onrebate CSR denied that they were affliated with TigerDirect.

I will be filing complaints with CT attoney general, also NY attoney General (he wants to get these guys) and BBB. I also will never never do business with Tiger Direct if this issue is not resolved properly.
