No Credit Card Required Scam Internet

Internet & Web

I am a previous paying AOL subscriber. About a month after cancelling my AOL membership I received a disk in the mail that stated "Non Credit Card Required" on the outside. I downloaded this disk and logged on using my previous screen name. The next month when I received my credit card statement the monthly fee was on it.

I called to cancel and was asked to provide the last four digits of my payment method. I explained to the service rep. That I never entered a payment method and that I used my previous screen name to log-in.

She then told me that the credit card that I had previously provided was the card that was being billed. She also stated that when using any disk it will ask you for a payment method, however because I used my old screen name they already had my credit card.

She also explained that no matter what disk used they would always ask for a billing method. The no credit card required, meant that you could use a telephone bill or a checking account instead. However, I beleive this to not be the way most would interpret this "No Credit Card Required" statement.
