Ripoff strikes again with pricing pyramiding Sacramento

Peoplefinders.com makes their pricing structure sufficiently complicated so while you think you're getting a free 24 hour unlimited search capability, you're really getting charged left and right. I went to their site to do a search, saw their 'comprehensive background report and free 24 hour people finder' membership offer and decided to give it a try. I interpreted it that, for 24 hours, I would be able to run unlimited background checks. I paid my $39.95 and ran two background checks.

I also ran two criminal background checks and clearly understood from that pricing page that those services ($19.95 each) were not part of the membership fee.

When I saw that peoplefinders.com had charged my credit card for two $39.95 and two $19.95 charges, I immediately e-mailed them and requested a cancellation on my 24 hour membership. They e-mailed me back and told me to call them during business hours, M-F, 8am to 5pm, PST. When I called them at 12:30 EST on Monday, I was told the 'free' memberships did not include background checks. And that I could not have my free membership refunded because it was 3 hours past the 24 hour free deadline. I laughed out loud and said that I had to WAIT to call until it was 8 am PST and I had initiated the service on a Sunday! I was told 'As a one time courtesy', they would refund one of my 'free' 24 hour membership fees for $39.95.

IMHO, the information on the 'free' reports is no better than I can find doing a name search on the internet. And their web pages are deceptively worded to make you think you're getting something you are not.
