Aol, Best Buy
Ripoff

Internet & Web

We recently purchased a computer at BEST BUY. They are involved with a free 90 day promotion with AOL. At the time of purchase we told BEST BUY that we did not want AOL, we already had service through Road Runner. They said the promotion came with the computer automatically, and all we had to do was go home and cancel the service, which we did, or at least thought we did. After three months, service charges from TWX/AOL started to appear on my wife's credit card.

The same credit card we used to purchase the computer. We called AOL having no idea why we were being charged for service. They informed us that we enrolled as members at the time of the purchase of our computer. We told AOL that we had told BEST BUY that we did not want AOL service. We also told AOL that our son, who we had bought the computer for, had called the 800 number to cancel service. AOL had a record of my son's phone call, but told us that he did not have authorization to discontinue service, because his name was not on the credit card. All of this miscommunication aside, AOL has refused to refund our money. I explained to AOL that we never used their service, or signed up for it. I was told my Lester H. An AOL representative that we were not being charged for service, but we and were being charged for membership! After much explanation and re-explanation, I asked Lester H. If I could speak to his boss, though he had a boss, his boss did not speak to members! The more you Google or Yahoo, looking for other complaints, the more you find. The more you talk to friends and family member about your woes, the more stories you hear.

Then you find stuff like this only to find out that AOL and BEST BUY have a marketing agreement!!!

I may never get my money back, but doing business in this manner, is just not right!
