Ripoff, defective laptop, horrible customer service and tech support

I ordered a Toshiba laptop from tiger direct in June. The laptop arrived soon after and everything seemed great. I burned two CDs in about 3 weeks of having the laptop, both seemed to burn fine.

Then one day, it just stopped working. Nothing seems to work, being an IT person myself I took all the beginning steps to troubleshoot the problem. Used the recovery disk, uninstalled every burning program that was not bundled with the PC, reinstalled the drivers directly from Toshiba's web site.

After doing all of this with no luck, I decided it was time to call tech support for a solution. They told me to do everything over again and informed me that the nearest service center is 65 miles away.

So (knowing that it would not help) I reformatted, reinstalled the drivers, and used a number of different burning programs and disks. Guess what? Still nothing.

Reformatting is a real pain for me because I dual boot with Fedora Core 4 Linux, which means I have to reinstall Linux as well and configure everything all over again.By then I had the bright idea to boot Linux and try burning with a few of the many burning programs available for Fedora 4. Booted into Linux, still no luck!

By this point any software or OS configuration errors are out of the question, this is definitely a hardware problem. Called tech support once again where someone asked me to reformat AGAIN. Knowing that this would do absolutely nothing I asked what my other option would be. (Also the Toshiba Tech Support team seems to know little, to nothing about PCs or Laptops)

Of course the only other option would be to send my laptop to god knows where and wait for who knows how long to get it back. Each time I called the tech support reps. Were very rude and very unhelpful.

A friend of mine also has a Toshiba laptop and has had many problems with it as well. He had an overheating problem and said the same thing about their tech support.

Conclusion: Steer clear of any Toshiba laptop, no matter how sweet the deal seems. The seem to not care about the quality of the laptop and their support is horrible!
