Internet Cable Modem Lease

I have been a long time subscriber of TWC bundled services (TV cable internet) and recently the company has assessed me a lease fee for an old modem that I have been using for more than 5years now. I believe this is not fair and this is not right.

I have entered into a contract for the bundled service and the modem unit was free. Why would this company assessed a lease fee now after 5 years of usage? I would like to demand the TWC to look into this modem lease policy for old subscribers. At least allow us to purchase the old unit at its used value. That would be a fair option.
