United Health Options Sold as medical insurance when in reality it is a discount medical program

I was shopping for individual health insurance. I went on line and sent information for quotes for individual health insurance. Brian Jenkins from United Health Options called me and we discussed my needs and what I was looking for and the amount of money I could spend on individual health insuran ce since I am on a fixed income. He gave me the information I was looking for, never telling me that this program was a discount medical plan. He talked very fast, although did answer my questions.

I was sent to a Louis who is the verification person. He talked exttremely fast and again I had to stop him on several occassions to ask him to repeat what he had said. They hit all the high points, but NEVER explained that this was a discount medical plan. When I received the material on this program six days later at the very bottom of their brochure was a discalimer that this is not health insurance. That is what I asked for from Brian when I first talked to him and he assured me that was what I was getting.

I was told that I had a 30 day look option and that if I wanted to cancel and get my money back I would be able to do so. I called the morning of the seventh day and first spoke to Margaret and told her I wanted to cancel, she sent me to Eddie who was pleasant and was surprised that I wasn't mad and then he transfered me to Tywana, a person with very broken english. He was very hard to hear and after several moments I asked to speak to someone else since I couldnt' hear him.

He obviously took off his headset and picked up the phone so I could then hear him. I asked him to please cancel this program that it had been misrepresented and please cancel. He asked me why and I explained that it had been represented as Medical Insurance when it was not. He then indicated that I would be refunded $139.95. I paid $239.90 up front. When I asked him about the balance I was told that the application fee of $99.95 was not refundable and I had been told that and agreed on a taped conversation.

That may very well be true, but no one can understand anything the verification person says to you because they speak so fast, which I am sure they are trained to do. This is nothing more that a way to make $99.95 for every person that they write up.By neglecting to inform people that this is a discount program and not major medical insurance they can make $99.95 all day long, because they can keep your application fee.
