Took Money From My Bank Account Weeks After I Canceled My Policy

Health & Medicine

I have had Assurant Health Insurance for years and they have been a horrible insurance company. On July 7 I wrote to them and told them I am turning sixty-five in August and beginning Medicare August 1. I requested that they cancel my policy as of August 1 and to immediately cease direct debiting my checking account for any more premiums. They had already taken my July premium payment.

They have raised my premiums and cited my sex and my age as the reasons so they know how old I am and that I qualify for Medicare this month. I mailed my letter to them on July 8, myself, at the post office. Those are two valid reasons for them to cease taking money from my checking account.

Today I went online to pay bills and discovered that they direct debited my account for the amount of my premium $755.60. They received my letter but have obviously pretended not to so they could deduct another premium from my account. They have left me seriously overdrawn for which I will have to pay the bank fees.

If I hadn't gone online today to pay bills I wouldn't have known until I did so they could have gotten days into this scam before receiving a complaint from me.
