Physical violation by nurse

I was a patient December 10 at BROOKWOOD Hospital in Birmingham for a Transurethral Bladder Neck operation. I called the hospital in advance to ask that I have a MALE prep nurse prepaire me in the O.R. For the operation—which I would be conscious during with only a spinal administered. I was assured this would be noted on my chart... On operation day a female appeared in my room and when I asked about the male that I had been assured would be no problem to have I was DENIED my request for same gender prep work. Not only did I verbally say what I wanted in the presence of my friend sitting with me, I had written it out as well and had that document laying on my chest... It was also ignored.

The Hospital was not very supportive of my situation when I filed a formal complaint about what had happened to me at the hands of their employee... Estelle murdock. Had I been a woman who wanted same gender care this would not be an issue... NEVER would a male have come in the O.R. To do that kind of prep work on a woman I'd think... Clearly I was a VICTIM of gender descrimination and I was against my will — PHYSICALLY VIOLATED — by the nurse who denied my request when MANY male nurses could have been called in the O.R. For that one procedure... I filed complaints on the hospital and nurse as well and will not be a patient there again... I had another operation of the same kind in March and chose another Birmingham facility because of the horror that happened to me at BROOKWOOD.
