Parkland Memorial Hospital UT Southwestern Allows Student Doctors to Operate on Patients with no Oversight or Supervision

UT Southwestern Surgery is famous for allowing students to run the hospital. Multiple investigative agencies have reported on this. When medical students who choose to go into surgery are graduating and going around to visit different places to do their training, UT Southwestern is very up front and forward in saying that they do not provide the caliber of training you get at the top schools. They say they make up for it by the "special relationship" that you will develop with the chief resident and the junior resident. No one will be supervising you during surgery, so the two of you have to figure it out on your own. That way you learn real fast.
What they forget is that UT Southwestern owns its own hospitals, and they don't let you do that there. Those are patients with insurance. You will spend about half of your residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital. That is the county hospital. Poor people and racial minorities are the only patients that go there. No one who has a choice in where to get their health care would choose Parkland. You only get to develop that "special relationship while you are working on the poor and minority patients at the county hospital. They hardly let residents touch the patients if they go to the hospitals they own.
But if you don't have insurance, those same doctors who won't let you touch a private patient will let you operate on a brain tumor and figure it out on your own if you don't have insurance and have to go to the Parkland county hospital that they staff.
This is racism pure and simple, and it has to be investigated. Also, everyone they get inspected they fail. The way they continue to stay open with all the citations against them is very suspicious and needs to be investigated.
