I started my membership July 30 with the Body Shaping Gym who is now dba: Gold's Gym. At the time we signed up with their organization we were told that they were going to have a swimming pool, handball courts, tennis courts, larger facility for women and childcare etc. Etc.By the Spring time.

Well, of course if you could get in on a sweet deal of $69/month for a family of 4 why not? Well, we were also told that we had to provide a written cancellation to the facility for a 30-day cancellation to be in effect. Here is the catch. You may NOT submit your 30-day cancellation in writing you MUST fill out one of their forms in person at the gym and it is not effective until the LAST DAY of your contract.

So, this means that if your contract ends July 30th, you still have to pay for August even though your contract ends in July, because they won't accept the cancellation until the last day of your contract EVEN IF YOU PROVIDED A WRITTEN CANCELLATION in June. It is not accepted.

The faade of come join us we are going to be bigger and better was very enticing. To this date the NEW and improved gym is still not open and they are still using the same sales pitch.

My husband and I feel as if we have basically become investors for their new endeavor and we are not even given the courtesy of having our contract terminated when it states it is completed. We are stuck and told that if we do not pay the $69 July 26th for August that they will send us to collections and report us to the credit bureaus for non-payment.

Moral of this story is you should not only read the fine print, but have the sales person put it in writing that you can give the 30 day termination notice before the end of your contract.
