Liquiboost
Misleading "risk free trial" ad cost me 139.00

Health & Medicine

I signed up for a "risk free" trial of the weight loss product "Liquiboost." The ad on the web page said just 4.95 for shipping and handling would cover it. There was an asterisk next to the 4.95 on the web page but no corresponding asterisk anywhere else explaining what that asterisk meant or no prompt to check "terms and conditions" which was buried at the bottom of the page.

Turns out that hidden in paragraph 5 in "Terms and Conditions" is a convoluted disclaimer saying the trial lasts 10 days from when you first place your order and if you don't cancel in that time your credit card will be charged 139.00 The trial starts the day you order the product, not the day you receive it which in effect means you have about 5 days to cancel or you're charged 139.00.

When I went to cancel (the product is not effective) I was told the trial had expired and that I would be charged 139.00. The people at the company were smarmy and sarcastic, unmoved by my call because I'm certain they get calls like this all day every day. I am equally certain this is how they make a great deal of their money by tricking people on a technicality and then socking it to them.

I would heartily suggest avoid doing any business with the people behind Liquiboost unless you're looking to make an involuntary donation to their dishonorable outfit.
