LapBand consult Not so Free!

Both me and my husband were interested in the lapband procedure. We called and because of my work schedule we decided it was better at the time for him to have his done first. Back in November of 08 my husband called and made an appt for the free consultation and seminar for a saturday. We were told that our insurance was accepted there and had in fact done many procedures for people with our same PPO plan.

After the consultation and seminar my husband also had a phone interview to determine the reasoning he had for having the procedure done. No one mentioned there would be a $500 charge for this "over the phone psychological test!" He was even unaware of this being conducted by a psychologist because the questions ranged across the board from, 'When would he be able to schedule for the procedure?', to 'When would I be coming in for my own', it was more of a question and answer session much like his consultation.

Our Insurance this week contacted us and informed us that we were being billed for the psychological testing done by this facility because it was not an item covered by our plan and neither were they a contracted facility under them! We are in the process of disputing this claim and are somewhat stumbling about wondering what direction to go in.

On a side note, neither of us have been there since my husbands' consult/seminar. Nor did we have the procedure done. They are still occasionally calling me and doing followups as to when I will be going in. No way!!
