Ripoff Left Me With an Expensive Bill For Item I Didn't Want

Health & Medicine

I have been suffering from social anxiety and depression for many years. While sitting in my car, I overheard a radio ad for Midwest Center explaining about a free trial offer. I called the number immediately and was greeted by a friendly and caring voice.

The woman on the other end asked me several private questions about what I was suffering from, what medication I was taking, etc. "to determine the program best for me". They stated they would send out the program to me to try for 30 days and I could return it without paying anything but postage.

I received the box and a week later, I got up the energy to open it. I started to look over all of the materials and got overwhelmed. Another week went by and I decided to call (within my 30 day trial period) to "get instructions on how to return it". YOU HAVE TO CALL TO FIND OUT HOW TO RETURN IT (this should have been my first red flag).

When I called and stated that I wanted to return the program because my financial situation had changed and could not afford to keep it. The voice on the other end became that of a telemarketer. She insisted that I keep it for another few weeks and listen to a specific cd. They would not tell me how to return it and I did not feel like arguing with her.

For next few weeks my depression got bad. I was sleeping all the time, not wanting to go out, or go to work. Two weeks and exactly one day after... I called the company to see if I could return the program. They said, quite sternly, no. I was past my trial. They would not even accept a partial payment for the $700 program.

I feel that they knew my issues with depression very well after the initial call. They did not care what my excuse was and would not discuss it.

I wrote them recently and told them that I thought they were a scam and explained what happened. I informed them that I gave their program away so I was not looking for a refund anymore. I just wanted to give them warning that I was going to let everyone know how "kind" they are when dealing with people.

They sent a letter stating they got my "request for return authorization" and they couldn't approve my request. They didn't even bother to read my email for understanding.

beware... If you have $700 to throw away for mental health, go pay a professional. These people are just out to get your money. Sure the founder beat her depression; by getting rich off of suckers like me.
