Health & Medicine

I have a slipped disc in my low back leading mild to moderate sciatic pain. I was on disability for several months while undergoing treatment for same.

I went to one of only two PT's in my area who claim to
specialize in a "new groundbreaking slipped disc therapy"
known as Decompression Therapy. They boast an "86% success rate".

Basically the therapy is a modern version of the midevil rack. You lie flat on a padded table and hooked to stirrups which pull you in opposing directions with moderate torque. Theoretically this is supposed to open the space between each vertabrae and allow your disc (s) to resume their normal shape.

In my view it's a complete fraud so don't even waste your time. I've only heard of a handfull of success stories using this approach so don't bother.

At any rate, I decided to give it a shot as it was
covered under my insurance. It was a 40 min. Drive to the PT.

After signing in I'd wait over an hour in the lobby
for barely 10 to 15 min. Of treatment. Then the 40 min. Drive home.

A lot of time spent for little, if any, results.

As PT is covered under my insurance I don't understand
why the doc tried to overbill me beyond my deductable.
I called my insurance and they said not to pay more yet
they still send me bills for services they didn't render
after I had stopped going.

In the end I bought a motorized inversion table which I
can use in the compfort/privacy of my own home. I strap my feet into the same stirrups, hit a switch, and up the feet go while I lay back down and let gravity stretch my back.

I've had much better results from this thing and regular chiropractic visits.

Bottom line — if you have this problem avoid Vax-D and
get an inversion table (and a good chiropractor).
