Ripoff dishonest billing of a mino

Five years ago I was treated at a hospital and my condition required that I received x-rays. At that time I would have been 16 years old.

Five years after the procedure was completed I receive a letter from a collections agency stating that I was being sent to court for not paying the bill.

Up until now I had no knowledge of the bill. Being a minor my mother assumed total responsibility for my medical needs. When I responded to the collection agency a very rude man informed me that because my mother failed to pay the bill and I was now considered a legal adult I was responsibile for paying the bill and if I failed to pay the bill off completely within a month I would have to appear in court.

Now to me this just seems asinine. How is it my responsibility to pay for a debt that occured when I was a minor. Now the catch is that my mother just filed bankruptcy and included all her medical debts.

But the medical bill that I am being sued over is not covered in the bankruptcy because according to the rude man from the collection agency she did not fill out the correct paper work saying that she was liable for me and never geve her permission for the tests to be ran. Now my question is: if she failed to fill out paper work giving her permission for the tests. Wouldnt the hospital be at fault for performing a procedure on a minor without concent from a parent?

Does anyone know what the statue of limitations is for medical bills? Five years later seemed a little to late for me.
