Discrimination, refused to provide an interpreter to a deaf patient

Hi I had a seizure for the first time 2 years ago and was sent to hospital by ambulance. The emergency room doctors contacted Dr. Ahlberg and asked for advice as he was the neurosurgeon on call for several hospitals. He told them to admit me and give me medications by iv.

After I was discharged from the hospital I had discharge papers that stated I have an appointment with this doctor in 2 weeks. I got home and I called his office to request and plan for an interpreter. Their office refused and told me to bring my own interpreter.

I called again 2nd and 3rd day and they still refused. They stated it was their office policy not to provide an interpreter. I gave up and called my local clinic manager. She called them and they ended up arguing. She cancelled my appt with him and referred me to a different neurosurgeon.

I went to this other doctor and he provided an interpreter with no hesitation. I did file a civil rights complaint with this doctor. The civil rights office investigated and found that the doctor did discriminated against me.

I found an attorney and after one year the result was that the commissioner of the civil rights office dismissed my case saying that the city of Minneapolis cannot force doctors to provide an interpreter. Im stuck right now and Im not giving up so I thought I would report this. Thanks.
