Cruel Treatment

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital of Brattleboro, VT maltreated me in the Emergency Room. I came in with bouts of terrible pain. After doing blood work and a CAT scan, they said that I was only suffering from anxiety, gave me a tranquilizer and sent me home.

But the horrible spasmic pain got worse with more frequent bouts, and I had to return to the ER in an ambulance. I was given another tranquilizer, but then I was ridiculed for "laying around in the ER" and forced to go home. But the problem only got worse and I kept returning, only to be treated degradingly, have my words distorted on me, ordered to keep taking medication that was making my symptons even worse, and refused more testing or medication changes. One Nurse Practitioner spitefully squeezed my spasmic arm and pushed down on my spasming leg when I was in horrific pain, though I pleaded for mercy.

Finally on the last visit, my husband refused to
take me home until they did something to find out
what was wrong with me. That caused a tremendous struggle during which I received more abusive treatment, until finally a doctor examined me and declared that I needed to be admitted to the hospital. THEN an MRI was done, which revealed that I had a serious inflammatory disease.

At first the hospital stay was peaceful, but one day two nurses with cruel and nasty demeanors tried to force me to walk. I tried to comply, but I went into terrible spasmic pain which caused aftershock. It should have been obvious that I could not comply, but they railed at me viciously about all the other pain patients they had made to walk, and there was no reason why I couldn't do it, too. To punish me, they took away food and medication, even the anti-spasm medication that would have helped me to be able to walk! The cruel nurses who did this were Michele M Rowland, RN, LICSW and Jackie B, RN. I do not know the names of the ER nurses who were abusive. Many people are complaining that they were mistreated at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, but nothing ever seems to get done about it.
