Bad wine, refused refund

A wine bottle switched vinegary, after I attempted to come back it towards the Save Mart in rocklin they stated they mightnot return my cash, since it was exposed. How will you decide if your wine is poor without starting it. Its more a subject of primary because it was just five bucks.
