Refused to replace defective timer free of charge

Opening this #8845UT Talking Tel Timer two months after receiving it, I found that none of the functions worked. The 72-hour limit to report it was expired, but it still qualified for the one-year manufacturer warranty. However Maxi-Aids said they could not reach the manufacturer, and wanted me to pay for repairs and shipping, and could not provide any cost estimate. They did not even offer to take it back and see if it was worth fixing before demanding more money from me (purchase price was $17.95 including shipping). Not wanting to throw good money after bad, I told them I was sorry but I could not recommend their company or their merchandise.
