Tandy Corporation Aka Radio Shack
Ripoff, rudeness, unconcerned

Two years ago I went to local Radio Shack to purchase cell phone. Sales Rep suggested Nokia Trac-fone. I knew nothing about cell phones and his suggestion SEEMED plausible. I paid $100 for phone.

Never activated, changed mind, and returned to store to get money back. Salesman refused stating "they were not returnable". I informed him that he had not advised me of this. He said it mattered not, he was not taking it back. Ordered me out of store. Called manager of this store next day. He upheld what salesman said and stated there was a posted flyer in store that said fones were not returnable. This was out and out lie. I am consumer that always checks for such a sign or for a store's return policy. No printed sign was anywhere in that store.

I called Tandy Corporation. They were unconcerned, uncaring, and discourteous and amused. Their motto seems to be "Let the Buyer Beware." They would not take the phone back nor refund my money nor exchange the phone.

I went to Nokia Corporation. They expressed concern and sympathy but not enough faith in their product to take the phone back and refund my money. I even offered to exchange it for a phone that I could get wireless service for. They refused.

I went to the Better Business Bureau which indicated that at that time they had 27 complaints against that Radion Shack and Tandy Corporation. They added my report as number 28.

I went to Consumer Protection Services. They took complaint. They communicated with Tandy. Tandy told them and me to kiss their crappy products. My representative continued to try to do something in my behalf. Then there was an upheaval in the construct of this department of Consumer Affairs and my report got shuffled around and eventually lost in the shuffle. However, I initiated the report with the newly constructed dept. And again Tandy told us all to go to H& and to kiss their a—.

Consequently I am stuck with this crappy phone which I will never use and which no one but no one wants to buy and I advise any reader to absolutely positively NOT do any business with Tandy or Radio Shack if you can help it.

Just look at me. I accept responsibility for not knowing what I was doing when I bought the phone and suggest a little thoughtful research before any purchase but I do not think that I nor anyone else should be refused the right to return a product that they have changed their mind about and get away with it.

I also advise that you pay attention to the fact that Nokia fell on its face in this matter also, indicating to me that they have no integrity nor professionalism. I believe as a last resort, they should have taken the phone back or exchanged just as a matter of good will.
