Sprint PCS
Falsely told me the area where I lived was covered then charged hundreds in roaming and wouldn't let me out of the contract. Rip-off!

I went to a sprint cell phone store in a neighboring town. I asked if my town, which was 20 miles away, would be covered. They said yes, but I had to buy a "special phone" with a good receiving antennae that cost alot more money than the regular phones. I bought a very very expensive phone, which the saleslady told me would give me better access from my town because of the position of the tower.

When I got home, I couldn't get a signal at all most of the time. Nothing. Nada. Zip. When I did finally get a connection it was crackly staticky and would cut off unexpectedly. I called the lady complaining that the phone she sold me did not work from where I lived.

She asked me "What's the matter? Don't you have a land line?" I said, yes, i have a regular phone but...
"So just use your regular phone when you are home" she chirped. Uhm. Ok but then why am I paying for this phone if I can't use it?

I work in this town and live here, and spend most of my time here, but the phone barely worked here. I did sometimes manage to get the thing to work, which I was sorry for later.

When I got the phone bill it was a two hundred dollar bill. Apparently I accrued over a hundred dollars in "roaming" charges even when I never left my town. My town, it seems, is not covered in their coverage area.

They would not let me out of the contract and charged me several hundred dollars more for breaking the contract when I refused to continue paying for the service, that apparently, was sold to me even though I could not use it.
