Online Batteries BEWARE if you send in a disassembled ipod

A tech friend had offered to put a new battery in my 4th generation iPod,
Unfortunately he got laid off between when he disassembled the ipod and I received the battery so he returned the unit to me ironically on the same day I got the battery from Ipodbatterydepot.
I went ahead and paid the additional $20 to get an order number and then packaged my carefully wrapped disassembled ipod ALONG WITH THE TOOLS AND NEW BATTERY.

NOTE: Before paying the $20 I thought I would test the ipod by connecting it to my PC via the USB cable. Even with no screen it worked and showed all my audio books still there and would play them no problem - This was on a machine at my office so the audio books were ONLY on the ipod.

I got a call from a guy named Moses from ipodbatterydepot after they rec'd my unit and he proceeded to inform me that the circuit board had been burned through when the new battery was installed and they couldn't fix it. I asked them how they did that and he said it was this way when they rec'd it. I was upset as I had not done it and the battery was still in their package when i sent it in; so he put me in contact with a "supervisor" named Cliff.

Cliff said they didn't receive the battery I sent and that their battery was already installed which was impossible. After much debate Cliff said he'd send the unit back and give me another battery.

I got it in the mail and it is obvious they use disassembled ipods as test subjects for new employees. When I had sent it in you could see the 3 perfectly soldered spots on the battery pigtail to the circuit board. When I got it back there was a large blob of solder and it was fried.in addition the small hold cable was scotch taped to the battery - it was not scotch taped when I sent it in!

Bottom line - they may offer cheap batteries and if you send them the unit fully assembled they MAY be capable of doing the battery change however, after seeing their handy work and listening to their denials I would not ever recommend this company.

To add insult to injury they kept the screwdrivers I had purchased with the battery which they said wasn't in the box.

Take pictures of everything you send to them and be ready for the call. Unfortunately if you send in a disassembled ipod they look at it as a "free test board" for new technicians and you'll have no recourse.
