Was ripped off in 1999 and still getting collection notices

In 1999, my husband went to a Cellular One (it is Alltel now) stores in Hereford, TX; near Friona, TX 79035. He needed a cell phone in his semi-truck that would go long distance. The representative told him it would work in Friona, TX and surrounding areas. My husband explained to the representative what he needed in a cell phone. The representative promised him it would work and he also told him that Cellular One was planning to put a cell tower up at the Hub intersection (as of this date there is no tower!). The only place he could use his cell phone was in Amarillo and Hereford TX. He could not use his phone in Friona or in New Mexico because that is where he traveled.

We called the company several times and they just kept putting us off; they where planning to put up towers in our area. We kept the cell phone for 7 months. We were told by the representative that they would take the charges off because the phone did not work correctly.in 2004 we started receiving collection notice for Cellular one for $176.31; I contacted the company they did not have any record of this transaction and that I needed to contact the collection agency. This store is no longer in business in Hereford.

I received another collection agency letter 2008 wanting $88.16. There is never anyone to talk to about the account they just drag it out. I finally paid $52.75. It is not the money; it is the principle that matters. They did not provide the service they promised and I did not want to pay them. There has to be a way to stop these companies. There are other companies in our area that promise service and the hide behind other company names.
