Camera eats batteries after warranty and repair costs too much

Just after the warranty ran out on my digital camera, it started eating batteries. I purchased new batteries but didn't help. I contacted Sony by internet and the flat rate for repair is higher that an equal quality camera. I guess I will have check out Kodak.
