MagicJack charges $39.95 for 1-year of service for all the calls you can make (unlimited). The $39.95 is for the actual unit (jack) and 1-year of service. During your sign-up or often times days after, you're offered a "Platinum Plan" which is an additional $59.95 for an "additional" 5-years of service (for a total of 6 years).
I signed-up on 10/17/08. They then had an offer to sign uo for an EXTENDED 5 years at $59.95 at sign-up and I decided to take them up on this offer. The problem was when I check online my account only said it was good until 10/17 (5-years total).
I've attempted to contact them (a NIGHTMARE) because there is no phone number or e-mail or physical address for MagicJack. You can only contact them via "live chat." You get reps from Pakistan, East India and the Philliphines who don't know how business is conducted in the U.S. And have no knowledge about their products or specials.
It's bizarre, but it took me about an hour each time I make the attempt to correct this. They keep telling me that the the 5 year contract included the first year - but that was given to me for FREE with my purchase of $39.95! My account should have been extended to 2014 but they ripped me off for a full year of service that I paid for! They tell you that there is no program for 6-years, but it's on their website right now and I have e-mail confirmations.
I've been asking for a refund, but they refuse to give me a straight answer. The funny thing is that I purchased a 2nd MagicJack unit within a week and also signed-up for the same "Platinum" special. That one was perfect and my expiration date is 2014. When I tell the "live chat" rep to explain to me how it is that my 2nd jack had the 6-year total applied they blow me off and dont' answer my question. It's almost like you're talking to a robot or some child on the other side of the world.
MagicJack sucks and so does their customer service. One of the worst companies I've ever dealt with!!!
