Misrepresentation, deception, fraud

On 06/13/02 I returned a GE two-line business phone to Thompson Consumer Electronics as instructed by GE tech support for a manufacturing flaw. The phone had not been used and was well within the warranty period when I sent it to Thompson for repair. Since that time I have spent considerably more than the phone is worth in long distance telephone calls trying to get either a repaired phone or the buy-back check they kept saying they were sending. After several months I contacted a television consumer line for help. The representative made numerous calls to this company. They also were unable to get any satisfaction, their telephone calls, as mine, were never returned, and in the end they closed my case because the company is out of state and they no way of following through further with an out of state company.

They told me they knew of numerous complaints about this company. I have found many complaints about this company on various web sites, and one large consumer's group told me "off the record" that they get a tremendous number of complaints about this company for the same kind of misrepresentation and fraud I am experiencing.

Thompson Multi Media appears to be totally unconcerned about consequences regarding their actions to consumers, apparently believing people will give up rather than face the continuing frustration and expense of pursuing relatively small amounts of money. This is a huge company responsible for GE and RCA products and it is obvious from my experience, from the TV station' experience and the multitude of other complaints that this company is deliberately defrauding thousands and possibly hundreds of thousands of consumers by these tactics of delay, misrepresentation and refusal to send refunds or repaird product.
