Sprint
Uses bait and switch to rip off

Electronics and household app.

I have a sprint phone. One day sprint called and asked if someone else could use a phone in my house. I wanted to get a free phone and another line for my daughter sharing my minutes for nothing more than I was paying. They said they would give it to me. Later when I got the bill they were charging me $30 a month for that second line, instead of $0. When I called to demand they correct it, it took two hours on the phone and threats to cancel all before they gave to the "retention department." That guy gave me a new plan with both lines sharing 1000 minutes for $40 with a "recurring $10 credit" every month. When the bill came again the $10 credit wasn't there. When I called, the agent gave me a nonsense explanation for why it wasn't there and said it would be later. I gave up on it then.

I later called to get another line for my son. The agent said we could add that line for just $9.99 a month with unlimited text, and the phone would be $20. When my son, age 17, called to activate the phone, though, they said they couldn't do that and they switched him to a new plan of his own that cost $40 plus $5 for texting, just for his phone, instead of the $9.99 promised. My son called and let us know that they had done that. Meanwhile I had gotten an email from them that said all the elements that had been added and deleted from my plan, incomprehensible to me and naming no prices.

When I called to demand that they change it back, it took one hour and a lot of angry talk on my part to get the guy to do it. Then I got them to give me the retention department and I asked them what happened to my $10 monthly credit. Another twenty minutes on the phone and they apologized and said they were crediting me. We'll see what happens.

Basically they keep saying they'll give me a certain thing and it is never what they say. I think they try to get away with as much as they can. Being willing to spend hours on the phone absolutely insisting to hold them accountable can get them to honor their promises somewhat, but you have to keep watching what they do, not trust them to do what they say. Another lesson is that if you push for cheap plans and are willing to work to get them and keep them and don't back down, they are possible.

Compared to the horror stories from other people with Sprint, I feel I have thus far been pretty lucky. I would find another phone company but I'm afraid of what would happen with cancellation fees. I just hope to get through the two year contracts without further rip offs, and hope to be able to quit then and find something better.
