Panasonic
Bad microwave

Electronics and household app.

In 1996, I bought a Panasonic microwave oven, and it lasted 10 years... Worked beautifully.in it developed a tendency to arc due to a thin spot in the interior coating. Ok, ten years, not a bad record, right? I thought that since this had been such a good microwave, I would buy another... Bad decision.in March of I went to Wal Mart and bought another big Panasonic microwave.in eleven months it quit working. It would start to count down the seconds without the oven coming on and after about 2 seconds it would kick off.

I called Panasonic and immediately started receiving static about getting my microwave fixed from the "customer service" people. They wanted a receipt even though the microwave stated plainly on the sticker that it was manufactured in March and it was now February. I called Wal Mart since I had lost the receipt and the wonderful lady there FOUND MY RECEIPT after almost a year... Talk about customer service!!!
I did as Panasonic requested and took the microwave and the receipt to an electronics repair shop 50 miles away. After about 3 weeks, they called and said the microwave was fixed. I went and picked it up and it worked fine.

It is now June and the microwave is doing the same thing. It will count down the seconds and kick off after 2 seconds without the oven coming on. I called "customer service" at Panasonic, AGAIN, and was told that I would have to "fax the repair history" to their facility and they would decide whether to repair the oven and how much they would pay. I asked them just exactly how this would be done and they told me to take the microwave to the same repair shop 50 MILES AWAY. So, I would be out the gas money at $4 a gallon and then Panasonic, in their infinite wisdom, would decide if the microwave is defective. I told them that I KNOW the microwave is defective since the first one lasted ten years and that since this one only lasted eleven months before it needed repair and now, after 16 months after THAT repair it is doing the same thing. Funny part is, that when I called Panasonic "customer service" the guy asked if I was calling about the model number starting with "NN"... Kinda fishy, dont ya think?

My husband brought home a GE microwave on the way home from work last night and we are now using it. Yes, he works for GE, but that has nothing to do with his choice. It was the biggest microwave that Wal Mart had and the only one they had left that was that size. We shall see how long this one lasts.
