If You Don't Buy Their Add-On Accessories Your Item Will Be Back-Ordered

Electronics and household app.

Found the Garmin Nuvi 650 GPS on their website at $65 less expensive than any other on line store and found it too good to be true. Ordered on Saturday with express shipping. Their website looks reputable with a five star rating and certification by Amex, UPS, etc.

Received an e-mail on Monday evening wanting me to call and verify my order. I called and the customer service rep wanted to know if I wanted the data card to go along with it. When I said no thanks, he said "oh, that's too bad." He explained what the data card was and if I didn't get it, every time time I turned on the GPS it would be like starting all over every time. I again said no thanks.

Next came the warranty, which is only 90 days. He made it sound like the touch screen would break quite easily and it would be very expensive to repair it. If I got the extended warranty, I could take it to Best Buy or Circuit City and have it fixed at a reasonable cost. I said no thanks.

I paid for 3-5 day shipping, and asked him to make sure it would go out on time. He said he didn't know because their shipping department was closed, he would have to ask tomorrow. I asked him how I would know if it was shipping tomorrow. "Let me put you on hold and ask someone if they've sold one in the last couple hours." He came back on the line "won't be shipping tomorrow, out of stock." That was NEVER mentioned when I ordered the product, or when I called to verify my order - as any other company would most certainly have let me know about this IMPORTANT detail.

I asked to cancel my order, he said ok, and hung up. I then received an e-mail from the SHIPPING DEPARTMENT (who I was told was closed at the time of our phone conversation, so how could that be???) saying my product is backordered 3-5 weeks. I received a cancellation notice 16 seconds after the shipping department contacted me.

Sometimes if it's too good to be true, it probably is. Just be careful and do a little more investigation than just looking at a website for electronics. Deal with a known, reputable company and if you pay a little more, it's worth no hassles.
