I am experiencing a problem with their RD65H DLP Wide Screen TV. This problem is widely reported over the web. It involves a part of the product called the "Light Engine" which contains a "Light Tunnel". This "Light Tunnel" has 4 small mirrors are a critical part of the light path.

The manufacture of this light tunnel is such that the adhesive used fails and the mirrors become loose. The result of these loose mirrors is a vertical grey area creeping in from the right side of the screen.

The manufacturer knows about the problem and does not recognize this as a manufacturer defect despite the fact that many owners are experiencing the same problem. Their service organization only offers a $1200 repair job to replace the light engine. As the product is failing for many owners and the initial cost was around $ this cost is ridiculous. Not to mention, new replacement current DLP TV's have dropped in price.

I suspect that Optoma has withdrawn this product, in large part, because of this and other issues voiced by owners on the web.

The manufacturer should rcognize this light engine or light tunnel problem as a manfacturing defect and address the problem by repairing the DLP TV's at no charge or providing for replacement product from other manufacturers (TV's are no longer part of their product line).
