Makes it difficult to receive rebate Ripoff

I recently made a purchase on TigerDirect.com, a website that I frequently make purchases. This was my first experience with the rebate process. The item that I purchased had two rebates. One required a copy of the UPC, the other required the original.

When trying to remove the UPC label from the plastic DVD cover, it tore. On December 19, I sent an e-mail to OnRebate's customer service department to ask them if a copy would suffice. To date, I never received a response to that e-mail, and was forced to mail in what I had in order to meet the deadline.

In mid-January, I received an e-mail from OnRebate stating that the rebate was not accepted because it included an "incorrect UPC barcode."

I called OnRebate to find out how to handle this situation - I can't be the first person who had difficulty removing the barcode! After waiting on hold for at least a half an hour, a representative picked up twice and asked me to hold again.

Finally, I spoke with Julie who advised me to send as much of the barcode as possible. So, I taped the torn pieces of a partial UPC and will be sending it off.

On a positive note, the company offered me a second opportunity to submit the rebate. However, if they had taken a minute to respond to my e-mail in December, perhaps this could have been avoided. I don't think that all of this time and energy is really worth the $25 rebate and will probably steer clear of any TigerDirect product that features a rebate from OnRebate.
