Sony
PS2 power button broke, shipping will cost me more than a remote control to turn unit off and on San Mateo California

Electronics and household app.

The power button will no longer function on the PS2 after only 3 1/2 months. The first lady I spoke with in the warranty department was very unpleasant to deal with. The tactics she used was to note that the defect is caused by either a drop to the floor or spilled liquids. They stated that I could send the unit in for "examination" since it is still under warranty, and if the unit appears to have drop damage, water damage, or excessive use (excessive use?), then they would not repair it and would charge me return shipping.

I understand the PS2 warranty department may deal with mostly damaged equipment that is not cared for properly. So I called back, a second customer service rep was much more helpful. After reading some of the other Sony warranty complaints, I am glad I have found a work around for the problem. I purchased a remote control for the PS2 so I can now turn the unit on and off using the remote. Bottom line is that it would have costed me more to have this unit shipped to the repair facility in Laredo, TX than the remote control costed me. The funny thing is that I ended up spending $10.00 (remote control) more on Sony products because of the defective PS2. LOL, Sony way to stick it to the consumer and make even more money in the process.
