Miltronics Manufacturing
RIPOFF faulty product, dishonest, doesn't honor warranty

Electronics and household app.

I purchased one of their "Infra Alert" driveway monitors for approximately 200.00. This is 10x what a imported unit would cost. I bought into their boasting of being a "military" grade manufacturer of the highest caliber with an excellent product. I was also attracted to their "10 year warranty" (though see below: they want $25 per service after 2 years, and did not honor the warranty).

The unit worked well for a few months, then began to get very intermittent. I sent it in, and they promptly sent it back to me "repaired". It was improved, but never as good as new. After another month, it got even worse. I called them up, they now wanted $25 to repair it.

I looked inside and saw one of the sloppiest surface-mount soldering repairs I've ever seen. Globs of oxidized solder gooped onto the tiny circuit traces. This is a "military" grade mfg??? I closed it back up and just chalked it up to bad luck.

2 years later, I'm working at my desk and smell burning plastic. I trace it back to their unit.inside one of the surface mount components has overheated and caught fire. The receiver is ruined.

I contact them and they eagerly ask to send it back to them. I don't hear anything for 3 weeks. When I cantact them again they say the transmitter (not receiver) unit had "bird pecks", a broken lens, and was damaged. (Neither my wife, nor I noticed such damage or missing lens when we packed it up.in fact, it looked pretty good.) They also said a power surge or lightening must have fried the receiver unit. Seeing I have whole-house surge protectors at the breaker panel, and haven't noticed any other signs of this phenomenon, I'm very skeptical of their claim. There was no storm going on during the failure.

Then they launched into a speil about my buying a new unit, or perhaps their advanced model for even more money. Unit's now carry a "lifetime warranty" they said. They offered a "discount" that was still considerably higher than the unit now sells for from their distributors online. I declined.

I'm writing a complaint (my first ever) because I've never actually had a company outright lie about a warranty claim to me. My wife and I both packed the unit up carefully and are both quite certain the "bird-pecks" line is a fabrication. I work in the electronics industry so I'm fairly keen on spotting damage.

Anyway, I ended up replacing the unit with a $17 import -which works (and looks) better than the Infra Alert ever did. I wanted to "buy American" - but this thing was IMO expensive junk. Lots of false-alarms, and no-alarms even when brand new.

If you need a driveway alert, I recommend one of the solar-powered units that detect vehicles-only, an Optex photo-beam or driveway sensor, or one of the imports like I bought.
