Ripoff

For Christmas 2003 I purchased my husband a portable DVD player.in February it would not play any more. My husband took the player and the box it came it back to Circuit City. He was quickly told he had to ship it back to the manufacturer for repairs or replacement. We followed the instructions given (though irritated).

In May we called the manufacture. They said they received the DVD player and would a new and "improved" version once released. We called again in October. This time no one would speak with us.

We called Circuit City and spoke with the manager. The manager was discourteous and abrupt. He said there was nothing he could do, no calls he could make and no names or number he could give us. I asked, "Circuit City quickly without hesitation took my money and sold me a product but there was nothing they could do?" The manager told me if I had my receipt I could bring the product back for store credit!!! I quickly told him he was the one who TOLD me to ship it back to the manufacturer. I have the receipt for the player and the shipping receipt from the post office but I no longer had the DVD player. He said there was nothing he could and asked me if there was anything else I needed.

How can a company quickly take your money and within 60 days not stand behind the product they sell. Why didn't they ship it back?

Before I could ask to speak with the manager, I had to wait for the sales clerk to get off the phone. It seems the party he attended the night before was worth bragging about. I got to hear how many time he threw up and where he woke up after passing out.

Perhaps if large companies got back to basic we the consumers would be happier. I have two words for Circuit City... Customer service!
