How low will they go?

The first time I was contacted by Allied Interstate was back in July (04). I politely and patiently listened to what "great" offer they were selling to collect on a past account. Of course, this "once in a lifetime opportunity" could ONLY be resolved by automated checking account withdrawal... On a
monthly basis.

I refused to give my checking account number over the phone and asked them to send the necessary paperwork in the mail. To them, that wasn't an option. Thinking he was being clever and sly and that I must be stupid, the collector said all he needed was the information on the front of the check. Like my name and address? No. Like the numbers at the bottom of the check. I had to laugh
at such treacherous tactics.

When I admantly refused, siting identity theft on the rise as an example, his demeanor changed. Lashing out at me for acting like this was a joke, referring to my middle age being in conflict with my maturity level, and other demeaning remarks that I didn't stay on the phone long enough to hear in their entirety.

Of course, Allied Interstate refuses to give up. I've been inundated by constant phone calls at home. I've programmed myself to hang up when I hear the words "allied interstate". I refuse to do business with them at all. Just for the record, I've never received any paperwork from them.

My daughter found information on the internet regarding lawsuits and complaints leveled against Allied Interstate. There are many of us out there with much the same experiences in dealing with the witchhunt mentality of such a disreputable business.

The most recent contact was made today (10-13) when a collector, disguising his intentions, called my place of employment only to be given my work-only cell phone number. And so the saga continues.
