The Salter School
Spent $15,000 on my adult education and I feel that it was a major waste of my dollars and my time. I was ripped off as far as I am concerned

Education & Science

I am a recent graduate from The Salter School (May). I knew it was a big mistake during the first mod of classes.

But I was told by personnel that it was too late to drop out, because I would still be responsible for the student funding that I had received, so I stuck it out.

From the beginning it seemed at least once a week there would a new teacher because they would let one go because of qualification reasons meaning they were not certified to teach the course. If the teacher is not certified how was that teacher able to teach in the first place.

The Director of Education for this site was replaced within the first couple of months of the fall courses and another brought to the Tewksbury campus HE was a joke he was always interrupting our classes even during test week that people were really thrown off by it that it would take at least another half hour to settle back into the exam and finish.

Students who were allowed to drop out, were being allowed back in with clean slates meaning one girl dropped out for a mod, who was failing some courses and before she dropped out she would miss several nights of classes and was allowed back in with a 4.0 average. Another was marked as having dropped out and never did. But she would miss classes every Monday night and a lot of times on Thursday nights and she was given a award for perfect attandance, and also received her certificate during graduation without finishing her externship. It seem as if different rules for different people, why?

I worked hard to have the grades I did, but when I see and hear about others I went to school with who received the same grades as I, and who did not have a perfect attendance receive awards for it, I ask myself why I even bothered showing up and on time every night and working so hard for my grades.

When you were in the last mod do you think they would tell you in advance where your externship was going to be or where. NO they would wait until a couple days ahead and say their waiting for a location to get back in touch with them. The Externship Coordinator would ask what type of office would you want to go to, I think she must of just threw away the paper because you would receive just the opposite of what you asked for.

Also, If trouble was brewing in the classroom because one of the staff would come in and pick on one student the whole class would be up in arms and by the time it was settled it would be 9 pm just because one of the girls was upset.

At night time if you smoked you were told to go to the gazebo which had no security lighting and you felt unsafe to go there. There was NO security for the students!

The administration would hold events during the day classes and never inform or involve the evening students and if you were in the MA program you were notified of events coming up, if you were in HCS courses you were in the dark.

One teacher would get so off track that talking about everything under the sun except the subject of the course that she was teaching, and we would have to rein her back to earth to finish the class. Another teacher who was having us do our resume' we would hand them in she would make some changes and have us change some more then when she would hand them back they would be almost the same as to when we originally handed them in.

If one student didn't like a teacher the whole class would know about it, she (the student) would have a yelling contest with that teacher.

They advertise on t.V. That if a class doesn't pertain to what you course study is you would not have to take it, that was a lie to. The School was doing away with Transcription and we had to take it, the DOE promised the students who did have to take that course that we could come back and take EMR in the next mod and I asked about it and never received any information in regards to it. The English course we had a teacher who would dance around during classes, and it seemed like she would pick on the Spanish students, and she also had her favorites and you knew it if you were not one of her favorites.

Also I had spoke with Patrick about bringing my GPA up to a 4.0 for a 3.83 and he told me if I attended every class for the last two mods and have a A in the last four classes then my GPA would be a 4.0, well he lied to me because it remained at a 3.83, which I don't understand one gal in my class received a 4.0 and missed class at the very least once a week.

Towards the end of classes I had one teacher teaching Medical Insurance and the next thing I knew some one else was teaching it and to find out that this second teacher was recently let go because she was not qualified to teach it, well what else do I need to say about this school. Another teacher had never taught before and the courses she was given to teach she knew nothing about or it seemed like it.

I remember sitting in class one night and discussing some of this with one of the teachers who was there from the beginning and she was upset about all that was going on at the school and she even suggested that we (the students) complain to the DOE so that is my next step. They also had two teachers teaching the same course Med Law and Ethics and they both had different teaching styles one teacher was new and the other had taught for awhile, the new teacher was very upset about it and it was because students complained to much about her. I also know for a fact because it happened in one of my classes that some students were goggling for answers on their phones during exams and the teacher for that course was in the room but on the computer and not watching the students.

Also another thing to is that the person who orders the books for the classes would not order them in time for the classes which held up the class and when you only have 8 weeks for a class and it is a class that you ABSOLUTELY NEED YOUR BOOK FOR then you've lost that time and you really can't make it up unless you do it on your own time. Some of the books that we had to have we NEVER even used. This was not just a one time only occurance.

The Externship was at a place that uses the students to do everything but what you went to school for I went for Health Claims and I did filing and registraring the patients, nothing to do with Billing and Coding what a waste there. The site offered me a temp position for 6 weeks but it was just for my hands they were implementing a new system and needed extra help, at the end of the 6 weeks I was let go. An now the Externship Cooridinator will call once a week for me to give permission to email my resume to different places, I am not sure if she is actually do this, I have had no interviews with any of the sites.

I did receive a certificate in the Health Claims field but it is doing me absolutely no good I feel the school was and is still a joke. I am not pleased with it at all, if I had known then what I know now there would be no way that I would of signed up for it.

I also received a call from the main campus stating that my part of tuition had to be paid in full before I could receive my certificate, which I feel was absolutely wrong and never mention to me, I pay my part every single month and have never been late with payment, but when you put calls into the school and never receive one call back no wonder why their school is going down the drain. I wish I had never signed up for the courses.

I feel that I wasted my time and money on this school and really did not learn anything from it, now I am in the situation of having to pay back my student funding with no employment and the sad thing is that I was employed before I had to do my externship, I had to leave that job to do 180 hours of externship and I I can not find a job to save my life.

At this stage in my life I thought going back to school for more education that would help me, but the cost alone and not being able to find a position in this field has done nothing for me. I feel that I have learned a whole lot of nothing and if I could turn back time I would never of gone to this school I would of selected a different one. Or if I could get my money back for the lack of education I received I would feel wonderful, I know that will never happen but if this saves one person from making the same mistake that I made I would feel great.
