AIU ripoff poor education lack of classes available shortage of teachers to teach program

Education & Science

I recently found the report that 'Jessica' wrote on the same university I attended. Two months ago, I discontinued attending American Intercontinental University (AIU) because of its utter lack of organization and broken promises to their students. I could not see myself continuing to throw money away to a place that gave me nothing in return! I am so mad at this place and now plan to take action because of the following reasons:

Their education first and foremost was terrible! I attended AIU for the past two years and earned almost a 4.0 because if you just tried in the slightest bit you'd get an A. I went to this school for Interior Design to obtain a Bachelors degree. For example, in my Building Systems and Codes class, we had NO midterm, NO final exam, the teacher just gave us handouts to complete in class and hand in the next class session and that was all he would grade us on. If we had a question on something, he'd simply say well if that's what the book says then that's what it must be. He never taught a lesson in the whole semester. I had a Lighting Design class in which I and the other students were promised hand drafting and computer drafting along with other programs and NEVER got them, we were taught lighting calculations ONE day and that was the extent, the teacher said we'd most likely never have to use them anyway. What he should have done is give us homework and problems to work on.in that class as well we NEVER had a final or a midterm, just guest speakers, one project and a class trip to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to check out their lighting. I got an A in that class but was furious because I learned NOTHING!

I went to my counselor and told her I wanted to take the class over because I felt that the A meant NOTHING because I learned nothing so they may as well have given me an F. She said why knock the A, just move on to the next class, each class is like building blocks and I'm sure they will review things in the following class, well that's a bunch of bull...

Books were often late and the semesters at this University were already shorter than typical Universities thereby pushing back the curriculum for that semester further behind. Myself and many other full-time working students were promised by this school to have night-time classes, well that was a BIG lie too, it got to the point that for several semesters I only had one class a semester because they didn't have enough classes to provide to the students at night. I went to the dean of the school to tell him of some of my frustrations and told him that I'd quit my day job if I had to in order to get more classes since I was always told there was more of a demand during the day for classes. He said do not quit your day job because I can not gaurantee you classes becuase they had a shortage of teachers teaching for that program, two, they had two teachers teaching that program! This was a shock to me and I did not realize this because I only went at night and therefore did not see all the teachers or lack there of. They had other teachers from other programs at that school teaching classes for Interior Design... Color Theory they had a photography teacher teaching, which I could go on about how poor that teaching was, they had an IT teacher teaching a Vectorworks class (which is supposed to be equivalent to AutoCad) I'll come back to that... But the point is they never should have offered the Interior Design program if they were not fully staffed! This Vectorworks program was given to all of us instead of AutoCad for doing drawings, Vectorworks is NOT even used in the 'real world' AutoCad is! So again, they are waisting our time with a program we won't even be using in the workforce..

To top it all off this school is on ACADEMIC PROBATION, they went on it last December and this December they are to be reviewed again, if they lose their accreditation then it will hinder the students that are still attending the school and that would want to transfer to another school.

If there is anyone else out there attending this school please file a report to this website and take action, this school should not continue to take advantage of students and continue to take their money any further!
