USA Funds
Rip-off college students: do not borrow from usafunds! 1

Education & Science

I have a student loan that I am currently paying $50 a month on. It is through USAFunds. They sent me a coupon book to send them fifty a month. I have been paying on it for about three years now. I "skimped" on two payments (due to a car accident) and could only send them $20 for each one of the months. It wasn't $50, but it was something. After that, they sent my loan to collections! No notice, no nothing! They just sent it. I then got a letter from the collection agency on April 28. I made arrangements with them to pay $50 a month. It didnt make sense, since that was what I was sending in the first place! I made all the payments, till last year, my wife lost her job due to Sept. 11th, so we got behind on our bills and I sent the collection agency $20 for about two months. My wife got another job, so we resumed the $50 a month in December. During all this time, I never received one statement on how my payments were being applied or anything. I had no information on how much I owed, etc. Now, I get a letter from USA Funds that they are going to garnish my wages if I don't pay the balance in full! There was no phone number on the letter and all the e-mails I send them are ignored. How can they garnish my wages if they don't send me any kind of statement and they never even tried to contact me (my phone number has been the same since I got the loan from them)?

And this loan isn't for thousands of dollars. It is for 1,300!!!
