Ripoff

I thought it was a fluke. Something that had happened in error. Not a real live scam? Silly me!

I went to the bank to report that CIC Credit Monitor had debited my account $39.95 and was following up with a $9.95 monthly charge. We hadn't authorized this and could the bank please block them... Oh, and by the way, could we please have our money back?!?

TCF bank was very happy to file a schedule E to refund the money. They recommended however, that I close that account and open another as they could not guarantee that it wouldn't happen again. That's a pain but a necessary evil, I guess.

I count myself lucky compared to some on this site.
