Homeworks Plus - Simple Escapes
Ripoff unauthorized membership and charges Internet

After placing an order with a catalog company I was offer the Simple Escapes promotion, which I agreed to. I knew that there was a 30-day cancellation option and that there would be no charge if cancelled within that period. I was also given an opportunity to apply for a $50 Savings Bond that was free to me for just trying the Simple Escapes promotion which I accepted. I did cancel the Simple Escapes within the 30 days but with some difficulty from the sales representative.

When I received my credit card statement I had the Simple Escape charge and a credit. I also had a charge from the Homeworks Plus that I did not understand. After contacting the phone number on the credit card statement I was told that I had agreed to the HomeWorks Plus offer. I told the representative (I have her name and code number) that I never agreed to the Homeworks Plus and in fact had never heard of the offer. After much debate and offers of other kinds from her I was guaranteed that the Homeworks Plus membership was cancelled. Also, and I feel fortunate after reading some of the other testimonies, she guaranteed me a prorated rebate from my orginal charge. I agree to these arrangments and felt that my losses were minimized.

I suggested that she inform her superiors that they had better inform their sales representatives that they either make their sales pitches much more clear or quit misrepresenting their promotions.

She kept telling me that if I had cancelled the program within the 45 day cancellation then I wouldn't have been charged. My comment is "How can you cancel an offer when you didn't even agree to it in the first place and that I never even heard of Homeworks Plus until I saw it on my credit card statement."

What really bothers me about all of this is that this company is getting away with robbery. Some of the innocent credit card users aren't as fortunate as I was. At least I received most of my money back but it is still robbery when I never agree to this other program and I'm not given a full refund. What a Scam.

I am going to contact the catalog company that offered the Simple Escapes program and let them know what has transpired.
