$14.95 charge Eureka Diamond Valley

As others have reported here, noticed a $14.95 charge to "Kurtz Enterprises 775-5518149 SC" At first assumed South Carolina but again as someone else pointed out the central office code is for Eureka/Diamond Valley, Nevada. I didn't bother calling the number. There is no business by that name listed in online yellow pages directories, and a reverse lookup on the number produces no hits.

Unfortunately, Nevada does tend to be a harbor for a broad spectrum of fraudsters. This is partly due to their laws, and partly due to the fact that criminals recognize that anyone stupid enough to come to NV to gamble is probably an easy mark for other rip-offs, making the state a "target rich environment" as we used to say in the military.

I was a little surprised to read that some folks have difficulty with their banks over these things. I have a really good relationship with my banker so maybe that makes a difference, but when I visited her with the statement she immediately pulled out a standard form used for disputes, reversed the charge, cancelled the card and ordered a new one. I certainly agree that getting a new card is a hassle, but I figure if these clowns are using the card number, who else might as well? Better to be safe.
