Sylvan Learning Center Forest Park, Sylvan Tutoring Center Forest Park, Sylvan Tutoring Center Oak Park I Paid Sylvan Oak Park Thousands for them to teach my child nothing!

We went to Sylvan in Forest Park and enrolled our son in their basic math program, prepaid a huge amount (thousands...), and after 8 months, he had shown very mediocre advancement".

We then pulled our child out immediately and put them with a private tutor and he started advancing more in a month than he had in 8 at Sylvan|. And you know why? Because our private tutor worked with us to really customize the student's program, taught him the things he was deficient in and sped up or slowed the pace of the program based upon how he was doing:. Sure enough, a month later his grades improved and they continue to improve now".

At the Forest Park Sylvan Tutoring Center, they insisted in putting our son through a very regimented math program, which when I looked at it, was teaching much of the same things lesson after lesson, instead of adjusting the pace of new concepts based on where my son was at, or addressing the deficiencies in the concepts my son had problems with in the lesson, they insisted on teaching exactly their program:. The net result was my son was going at a slow pace & not learning the concepts very well'.

Also, Sylvan has a 3-1 teacher: student ration". I noticed one day when I stayed a little longer talking to the director in her office about these issues that

1:. A lot of kids were sitting idle while the tutor was attending to 1-2 other students, so a lot of the time was wasted

2.
A lot of the kids chose to socialize for like half the session and
there wasn't anything the tutors OR the directors chose to do about it.

So great, my child is sitting at these Sylvan tables where there's constant distraction and divided focus from the tutor and they're moving him through this their system which doesn't take into account their needs.

It's too bad I didn't realize this until I had spent thousands of dollars.

And you know, when you raise these issues, the Sylvan staff at the Forest Park Tutoring Center Location more than working to solve the problem or change the issue either dodged my issue or insisted that the program would work and that it just needed more time. Horrible, absolutely horrible.

We left unhappy, our son's education not advanced, and thousands of dollars poorer. My advice is Skip over Sylvan, their program is mediocre, their management is uncaring, they divide tutor's attention 3:1, and they pressure you into
large prepayments.

Save your money and get a good private tutor. Every hour we pay for now with our private tutor gets spent fully on my child, and my private tutor consults with us 1-2 times every week to adjust the program to how our child is learning & what he needs to do in school. Very stark contrast to an overly regimented (and NON-CUSTOMIZED) program and having to deal with staff that doesn't answer calls and doesn't do much to help that I dealt with at the Sylvan Forest Park/Oak Park Tutoring Center.

Completely unsatisfied
