Stolen phone: must buy new phone or account is cancelled

It's only been 2 months since I've had voicestream and my phone had got stolen. I call customer service for advice on what to do.
I had the phone suspended but I have 60 days to purchase a new voicestream phone or else the account get cancelled. My original phone cost me about $200 plus a $200 deposit. So voicestream want me to purchase a new phone again, the cheapest is about $150. Which is ridiculous. Overall my total spending would be $550 for service with them. I mean come on a $200 cancellation fee for what "hurt feelings".
