Art Institute of Pittsburgh
Camijja Williams And Brian Mowry

Education & Science

I was pressured into starting these classes and I would tell them over and over that I needed to speak with my counselor from BVR (bureau of vocational rehabilitation) because I am disabled and they were helping me with starting college. I told them I didn't know how the money situation is with BVR and that I have no money on the account of the fact that I receive disability. I explained to them I was not ready yet because I have a plan through this government agency and I have to talk to my case worker first.

When one person through the art institute of Pittsburgh could not convince me they handed me off to someone else. They repeatably told me there are know out of pocket expenses for me and that if they get me started BVR would eventually pick up the cost because they have worked through BVR before. Well BVR does not work through these type of schools and only works for state colleges. My mother was trying to explain things to me and said things didn't make sense and the man I was talking to said my mother didn't know what she was talking about and then handed me off to someone else. They really pressured me into starting right away and said that if I didn't do it now that i would have to wait another six months. Now i have talked to my case worker from BVR and she said they will not pay the loans and that they do not work with the art institute of Pittsburgh and the whole grant situation is something we would have to figure out once i started a school of THEIR choice. She said they do not pay back loans (which I did not want in the first place) they only use grant money and pay the rest of what I need in a state school (which is cheaper because its government money). When i explained this to the counselor at the art institute of Pittsburgh he told me (and my mother who I also had talk to him because he would not listen to me) to say to my counselor it was a grant and not a loan so that they will pay for it. I refused to lie to my counselor about the loan and that sent up a HUGE red flag that he would ask me to do that.

So I talked to my counselor at BVR and she said she has heard of schools doing this before and that they get some kind of perk from pressuring people into these schools and that i should drop out immediately. So I informed this man who pressured me about my situation and of course he handed me off to someone else. I told them I felt pressured and legally because of my disability and that I have a payee handling my disability money I was unable to make financial decisions like that. I said I wanted to make a complaint and asked who to talk to and they just gave me another one of their "colleges" numbers. Now they are saying i owe 700 dollars for the week that i was in this class and I told them I have ZERO money. They basically told me too bad, so now I am stuck at what next step to take..
