Ripoff I rented a tow dolley from U-hauL. They damaged my car installing the transmission cooler and all the fluid leaked out and damaged my transmission Purchase

Education & Science

I rented a tow dolley from U-Haul in Poughkeepsie, New York. I was informed by the agent on duty I would need a transmission cooler to prevent my car from burning the transmission. I let them install the unit and I had to wait 6 hours for them to complete the job. The cost would have been $85.00 but they charged me for the time my car was in the bay -$207.57.

On my way home my car started to slow down and then stop completely. It had run out of transmission fluid.
It was dark out and I could not see what the problem was, so I added four quarts of fluid and attempted to get home.

A half mile from my home, it happened again. The next morning I was to leave for Florida with my family and the car in tow but I looked under the car and found the transmission line they installed had been cut in two, it was installed under the fan belt and the belt cut it in half.

I paid to have it replaced and went to pick up the dolly at the rental office. They hooked up the dolly to my car and told me to file A claim ASAP.

On the way home, the dolly fell off my car at a stop light and landed on the raodway. Fortunately, there was no damage this time.[They failed to lock the hitch to my car.]

I called the main office of U-Haul and they directed me to Republic Western Insurance Company.

When I returned home I called Republic and talked to Matt Denicola, the agent in charge of my claim. He informed me to send an estimate and he would take care of my claim.

On Jan 22 I faxed another copy of the bill to Matt and he never called me back. I called him again and he said he was waiting for an approval from his boss.

After all of this aggravation, I then received a letter telling me there was no evidence of negligence and my claim was denied. The letter I received was obviously a form letter regularly used by their company as the letter was addressed to me, but the salutation was "Dear Ms. Quinn". That served as a definite indication of the level of interest placed on my claim.

I believe I have been extremely tolerant and patient in this matter. I have provided all relevant information and had numerous telephone calls with Republic in my attempt to have my vehicle repaired only to receive a form letter denying my claim.
