Simple Escapes
AOL ripoff

When we woke up this morning and checked our bank account, we found some company called Simple Escapes had stolen $134.95 from us. Having never heard of them, we did a Google search. Wow... Page after page of complaints appeared against this company. So, we started calling. When we called Simple Escapes a supervisor named Anthony stated he would put the money back in our account within two business days and gave us a confirmation number. We're not sure how he is going to do that because, other than our e-mail address, he asked for no pertinent information. Simple Escapes claimed that AOL gave them the account information through a pop-up. We have three children who have access to the computer and they, like us, always "x" out any pop-up; apparently, they get the information from somewhere even though a pop-up is deleted. Our next call was to AOL (in South Africa, which is where you end up when you call their toll free number); she claimed no knowledge of the company, but looked at the complaints on line about the company. We don't know where it's going from here, but I don't know how personal information like bank account numbers can be so easily stolen through a pop-up.
