Constanly sent invoices and emails that I had a balance due - when paid in full and already paying on my student loan. Davenport Iowa

I attended Kaplan University (On-Line Program) for Legal Studies Degree Program.
The classes themselves and instructors were great. I finished my first term - made the Dean's List first term. The second term - I was registered for term - before classes started my immediate family had a crises - and I could not attend the second term. I was told I would have to pay $100.00 to "UN-ENROLL" and that was that. I have never been charged not to attend a school or university. But o.K.
I will felt I would strike this matter up as being a way for the school to deter students from dropping in and out of school on a regular basis - and to encourage them to continue on with their goal.

I had already been approved for financial aid to cover the entire costs of the first term of school. I had already received my first statement for my first three payment due from Citi Bank - for my student loan - Yet I was getting nasty notices from the school and financial aid office stating I owed for the entire balance for the first term - close to $4000.00.

I explained this matter approximately 4 different times over a period of 6 months to the school - due to the fact I continued to get letters from the school I needed to pay for my first term. I think I have the matter finally cleared up. I had to basically get really aggressive and firm - and threaten to have my attorney contact them and possible sue for harassing me.

The crises in over in my family now - and I would like to continue with my degree program - but I'm very very hesitant due to the way the school and it's financial department has handled itself. I have to also state the Financial Aid office didn't know it's left hand from it's right— and it seems the school policy is the "Hot Potato" treatment. They pass the responsibility on to the next. And the next. And the next and no one acts professional enough to stand up and actually take care of the misunderstanding and get the matter straight!

Very frustrating situation— I'm researching other schools. But after reading some of the other complaints with "consumer complaints" I may have a difficult time getting my credits transferred to another university to allow me complete my degree as planned without repeating courses and spending an extra if not more than $4000.00.

Good Luck to new Enrolling Students - Do more research prior to enrolling and know I only write this info to hopefully help one of you out there. You don't want to experience what I went through.
